The winery specialises in Metodo Classico, and for good reason. Back in the 1920s and 1930s, Contratto had the privilege of producing fine wines for the Vatican and royal houses. In fact, Contratto was exported to and enjoyed in even the most remote corners of the British Empire. Since 2011, Contratto has been owned by the Rivetti family—a highly dedicated and experienced winemaking family, which also owns the top winery «La Spinetta». The red grape variety Barbera predominates, followed by Dolcetto and Nebbiolo, which is used to make the famous Barolo.
