Short, dry summers are followed by misty autumns and very cold winters. A challenge that Piedmontese winegrowers meet successfully: Alongside Tuscany, Piedmont produces most of Italy's top wines with unmistakably full-bodied, multifaceted aromas, which are attributable to these special climatic conditions. The red grape variety Barbera dominates, followed by Dolcetto and Nebbiolo, from which the famous Barolo is made.
