About Angelo Delea

Delea's extensive range reflects the full diversity of Ticino: connoisseurs will find the warmth and zest for life of Switzerland's southernmost canton in Delea wines. Former restaurateur Angelo Delea fell in love with the world of wine in Bordeaux, where he laid the foundation for Vini & Distillati Delea. His sons, Davide and Cesare, currently manage the company and inspire with a wonderful range of wines, from easy-drinking Merlot to the premium wines of the Carato line.

The Region

Ticino is the southernmost canton of Switzerland and, thanks to its climate featuring the highest summer temperatures in Switzerland, it is excellently suited for viticulture. The Bordeaux grape variety Merlot is cultivated in over 80 percent of the nine districts: Bellinzona, Blenio, Leventina, Locarno, Mendrisio, Riviera, Vallemaggia, and Mesolcina. Due to the alpine topography, the wine-growing areas are scattered and consist of small plots on mountain slopes with a thin layer of soil over a granite base. The density of quality winemakers and wines is higher here than anywhere else in Switzerland, leading to the introduction of a system similar to the Italian DOC in 1997. The full-bodied, aromatic red wines, which are also suitable for aging, are among the best in Switzerland and reach an international standard.
