About Bodegas Arzuaga

Following his love of wine, Florentino Arzuaga acquired the unique La Planta winery in Quintanilla de Onésimo in 1982. Situated on the Paramo hill in Ribera del Duero’s Golden Mile, where most of the region’s renowned wineries are located, the beautiful estate benefits from a balanced climate and optimal growing conditions across its 150 hectares of vineyards, thanks to its diverse flora and lush forests. Sunny days and cool nights allow predominantly Tempranillo grapes to ripen here to the highest quality. Cultivated with great care, they produce complex, concentrated, and full-bodied wines in the unique style of the Ribera del Duero terroir.

The Region

Castile and León comprises the northern half of Spain’s large central plateau. It extends from central Spain almost to the northern coast, with vineyards situated at elevations of 700 to 1,000 metres. Despite its proximity to the Atlantic, the climate is continental, with hot, dry summers, icy winters, and significant temperature fluctuations between day and night. Because rainfall is also very low, the soils are nutrient-poor—except near the region’s many rivers, the most famous of which is the Duero, where significantly more minerals and clay can be found.
