About Bodegas Arzuaga

Following his passion for wine, Florentino Arzuaga acquired the unique La Planta winery in Quintanilla de Onésimo in 1982. Situated on the Paramo hill in Ribera del Duero’s Golden Mile, home to most of the region’s renowned wineries, the beautiful estate benefits from a balanced climate and optimal growing conditions across its 150 hectares of vineyards, thanks to its diverse flora and lush woodlands. Sunny days and cool nights allow predominantly Tempranillo grapes to ripen here to the highest quality. Cultivated with meticulous care, they produce complex, concentrated, and full-bodied wines in the distinctive style of the Ribera del Duero terroir.

The Region

Castilla León comprises the northern half of Spain’s vast central plateau. It extends from central Spain almost to the northern coast, with vineyards situated at elevations of 700 to 1,000 metres. Despite its proximity to the Atlantic, the climate is continental, with hot, dry summers, icy winters and significant temperature fluctuations between day and night. Low rainfall also leaves the soils nutrient-poor, except near the region’s many rivers, the most famous of which is the Duero, where significantly higher levels of minerals and clay can be found.
