About Bodegas Arzuaga

Following his passion for wine, Florentino Arzuaga acquired the unique La Planta winery in Quintanilla de Onésimo in 1982. Situated on the Paramo hill in Ribera del Duero’s Golden Mile, home to most of the region’s renowned wineries, this beautiful estate benefits from a balanced climate and optimal growing conditions across its 150 hectares of vineyards, thanks to its diverse flora and lush woodlands. Sunny days and cool nights allow the highest quality Tempranillo grapes to ripen here. Cultivated with great care, they produce complex, concentrated, and full-bodied wines in the distinctive style of the Ribera del Duero terroir.

The Region

Castile, the region of the windmills, produces half of Spain’s wine. The vast, flat southern half of Spain’s great central plateau is a land of extremes: at elevations of 500 to 700 metres, it is extremely hot and dry in summer. While the landscape is still green in spring, it turns ochre-yellow in summer, and most riverbeds dry up. The predominant soil is typically reddish-brown, sparse, and sandy, limestone-rich, or clay-based. Its ability to retain scarce water makes viticulture possible. A new generation of modern winemakers here cultivates mainly the white Airén grape variety, focusing on clean, authentic, and predominantly organic production.
