Egomei Rioja DOCa Egomei Carpess 2019 Red Wine – Plenty of blackberry and redcurrant characterise this ruby-red, well-balanced wine. Its aromas are complemented by notes of cherry, cocoa and chocolate, as well as a touch of spice from vanilla and clove. A soft, rounded and harmonious structure supports the aromatic fruit, while a long finish rounds off the experience.

About Egomei

Egomei is a winery dedicated to pure enjoyment. Its 120 hectares of breathtaking natural surroundings lie in the town of Alfaro. The winery is located in Rioja Oriental (formerly Rioja Baja). The vineyards have been tended with great care since 1975, with the aim from the outset of achieving the highest quality in wines made from Tempranillo and Graciano grapes grown in select single vineyards. The same commitment to expertise is central to the winemaking at Egomei. The wine is aged in French Allier oak barrels and small tanks until it achieves the perfect balance and depth.

The region

Rioja, Spain’s leading wine-growing region, is divided into three areas: Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Baja. The region is renowned for its high-quality red wines and huge wineries; the latter are a result of all wines being aged for at least one year in oak barrels and for at least another year in the bottle. After the phylloxera disaster, substantial capital flowed from Basque industry into rebuilding the region and exporting its wines to the USA, which is why the wines have traditionally been aged in American oak barrels. Tempranillo is the predominant red grape grown in Rioja, on a wide variety of soils ranging from sand to alluvial deposits. Rioja Baja has a Mediterranean climate, with extremely hot, dry summers and mild winters, while the cooler Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa feel the influence of the Atlantic.
