About Leonardo da Vinci

500 YEARS OF WINE EXPERTISE: For half a millennium, the world has known that Leonardo da Vinci was a brilliant inventor and artist. Less well known is the fact that Leonardo came from a winemaking family in the Tuscan village of Vinci and that wine was his great passion. Villa Da Vinci, the estate where Leonardo grew up in the 16th century and where his family was already growing vines 500 years ago, still exists today, surrounded by beautiful vineyards. Inspired by life on the estate, Leonardo also applied his genius to researching viticulture and developing new methods for continually improving wine quality. He recorded his findings in letters and sketches. Today, Cantina Leonardo da Vinci wines are made according to the traditional Metodo Leonardo® – from grape growing to vinification.

The region

Emilia-Romagna, located in northern central Italy, has achieved worldwide fame thanks to its automotive industry: Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini and other great names are based here. But the region, with the university city of Bologna at its heart, is also devoted to the pleasures of good food and drink – high-quality products such as Parmesan, Aceto Balsamico and Parma ham win the hearts of food lovers far and wide. The region also produces a wide variety of fine wines: fruity, fresh and light whites made from Malvasia and Trebbiano, and full-bodied, intense reds, predominantly from Barbera and Sangiovese grapes.
