About Mavrio

Mavrio wines are wines of character made from the pure Negroamaro grape! They grow in Puglia, in the warm south of Italy, and are subsequently aged for several months in barriques. They then present themselves in full bloom, revealing a dark sweetness and sun-drenched aromas. In a short time, Mavrio has become a favorite among Swiss wine drinkers, and wine critic Luca Maroni has already honored these high-quality southern Italians with high ratings on several occasions.

The Region

Southern Italy's Puglia is one of the country's most productive wine-growing regions. From the spur of the boot near Foggia to the tip of the heel behind Lecce, Puglia stretches over 400 kilometers. The area has the most grape varieties in southern Italy, about 80 percent of which are red. A Mediterranean climate and calcareous subsoils with layers rich in iron oxide above them create perfect conditions for viticulture. In the dry, hot summers, the grapes ripen optimally, and the wines become deep dark, earthy, and full-bodied. Unlike other southern regions, there are hardly any mountains here; the landscape consists primarily of plateaus and flatlands. A wine-growing region with enormous potential – the possibilities of the countless autochthonous grape varieties are far from exhausted. Already today, Puglia offers top-quality wines of great intensity and fullness; the finest among them grow on the Salento peninsula.
