About Mavrio

Mavrio wines are characterful wines made from pure Negroamaro grapes! They grow in Puglia, in the warm south of Italy, and are subsequently aged for several months in barriques. Afterward, they present themselves in full bloom, revealing a dark sweetness and sun-drenched aromatics. The Region

Southern Italy's Puglia is one of the most productive wine-growing regions in the country. From the spur of the boot near Foggia to the tip of the heel past Lecce, Puglia extends over 400 kilometers. The area boasts the most grape varieties in southern Italy, about 80 percent of which are red. A Mediterranean climate and calcareous subsoils with layers rich in iron oxide create perfect conditions for viticulture. During the dry, hot summers, the grapes ripen optimally, and the wines become deep dark, earthy, and full-bodied. Unlike other southern regions, there are hardly any mountains here; the landscape consists primarily of plateaus and flatlands. A wine-growing region with enormous potential – the possibilities of the countless indigenous grape varieties are far from exhausted. Already today, Puglia offers high-quality wines of great intensity and fullness; the finest qualities among them grow on the Salento peninsula.
