About Mezzacorona – Feudo Arancio

Sicily casts its spell at first sight—and Feudo Arancio captures this passion. The generous landscape, mineral-rich soil, intense light and unique scents of the island are the Sicilian ingredients behind wines crafted with love. They give rise to characterful wines, carefully vinified. An expression of a love that becomes a journey of discovery: through the colours and atmospheres of Sicily, to the secrets of its grapes and to select aromas, which Feudo Arancio interprets in a fresh, contemporary style.

The Region

Sicily, home to Italy’s largest wine-growing area, lies off the tip of the Italian boot. Its climate—intensely hot summers and little rainfall, with an African influence in the south—and geography—mountainous terrain with poor soils—make the island ideal for viticulture. The vines benefit from the gifts of nature: hillsides with excellent exposure, abundant sunshine, favourable elevations with significant temperature differences between day and night, and a wide range of characterful native grape varieties. Soils vary from one subregion of the island to another. In the west, very poor soils of volcanic origin predominate. It is no wonder, then, that the most sought-after sites for intense, deep-coloured, fruity wines are found on the slopes of Mount Etna. Other areas have sandy soils with a high iron content. Combined with an underlying layer of limestone, these give the wines fresh mineral notes.
