About Mezzacorona – Feudo Arancio
Sicily enchants at first sight—and Feudo Arancio captures this passion. The generous expanses of land, mineral-rich soil, intense light and unique scents of the island are the Sicilian ingredients for wines made with love. They give rise to distinctive, carefully vinified wines. An expression of a love that becomes a journey of discovery: through the colours and atmospheres of Sicily, to the secrets of its grapes, and to selected aromas that Feudo Arancio interprets in a fresh, contemporary style.
The Region
Sicily, home to Italy's largest wine-growing area, lies off the toe of the Italian boot. Its climate—intense summer heat and little rainfall, with an African influence in the south—and geography—mountainous terrain with poor soils—make the island ideal for viticulture. The vines benefit from the gifts of nature: hillsides with excellent exposure, abundant sunshine, favourable elevations with significant temperature differences between day and night, and a whole range of distinctive native grape varieties. Soils vary across the island's subregions: in the west, very poor soils of volcanic origin predominate. It is no wonder, then, that the most sought-after sites for intense, deeply coloured and fruity wines lie on the slopes of Mount Etna. Other regions have sandy soils with a high iron content. Combined with an underlying layer of limestone, these impart fresh mineral notes to the wines.
