As a good luck charm, a guardian angel statue stands in every Montes wine cellar. The Region

The Central Valley is—in terms of wine volume—one of the most important and largest wine-growing regions in South America. It extends from the coastal plains of western Colchagua to the Andean foothills of Puente Alto and is divided into the sub-regions of Colchagua and Cachapoal. Over its 400-kilometer length, it offers a great climatic diversity and very different soils, resulting in an enormous range of wines, from traditional Chilean wines to fashionable Bordeaux-style wines. In any case, Chile's star grape, Carmenere, plays the leading role here. In the cooler regions, however, winemakers are increasingly experimenting with grape varieties such as Viognier, Riesling, and even Gewürztraminer.
