The Region

In terms of wine volume, the Central Valley is one of the most important and largest wine-growing regions in South America. It extends from the coastal plains of western Colchagua to the foothills of the Andes in Puente Alto and is divided into the sub-regions of Colchagua and Cachapoal. Spanning 400 kilometers in length, it offers a great climatic diversity and very different soils, which results in an enormous range of wines, from traditional Chilean wines to trendy Bordeaux-style wines. In any case, Chile's star grape, Carmenere, plays the leading role here.
