Montes Purple Angel DO 2021 Red Wine – This outstanding ruby-red wine impresses with immense aromatic power, featuring ripe black fruits and cherries, complemented by notes of pastry and spice with a hint of cinnamon, mint, and jam. The delicate scent of caffè latte and caramel is a testament to the influence of French oak. On the palate, it is wonderfully balanced with very well-rounded tannins. The wine has a creamy texture and offers a long and seductive finish.

About Montes

As a lucky charm, a statue of a guardian angel stands in every Montes wine cellar. It has accompanied top winemaker Aurelio Montes, an outstanding personality, since the company's founding and keeps a protective hand over the wonderful wines. Not only for this reason, but also thanks to his instinct for new terroirs and top-class wines, Aurelio Montes has made it onto the international wine map. He discovered Chile's potential and produces wines of the highest quality. Today, the Montes winery includes vineyards in Apalta, Marchigüe, and the cooler Zapallar. It is family-owned; at the helm, of course, is Aurelio Montes, supported by his son, Aurelio Montes Jr.

The Region

The Central Valley is – in terms of wine volume – one of the most important and largest wine-growing regions in South America. It extends from the coastal plains of western Colchagua to the foothills of the Andes in Puente Alto and is divided into the sub-regions of Colchagua and Cachapoal. Spanning 400 kilometers in length, it offers great climatic diversity and very varied soils, resulting in an enormous range of wines, from traditional Chilean styles to fashionable Bordeaux-style wines. In any case, Chile's star grape, Carmenere, plays the leading role here. In the cooler regions, however, winemakers are increasingly experimenting with grape varieties such as Viognier, Riesling, and even Gewürztraminer.
