About Prelius

The Maremma plain in southern Tuscany is a relatively young wine region. Here, Federica Masceroni Stianti, from the renowned Chianti winemaking family of Castello di Volpaia, has struck out on her own with the Prelius estate. Carefully and passionately, she produces elegant, Mediterranean-inspired organic wines. Thanks to the unique terroir—sandy sedimentary soils at just 30 to 50 m above sea level—and the typical microclimate with mild winters and hot summers, the vines ripen perfectly, resulting in supple, aromatic, and fruity wines.

The Region

Along with Piedmont, Tuscany is arguably Italy's most famous wine-growing region. Long before the Romans, the Etruscans were cultivating vines there; it is therefore also one of Europe's oldest wine-growing areas. In Tuscany, one speaks primarily—and with justifiable pride—of the world-famous Chianti and Brunello. In reality, however, Tuscany is Italy's largest supplier of top-tier wines. Pampered by plenty of sunshine, cooled by occasionally strong sea breezes, and yet provided with sufficient rainfall, Tuscan vines produce outstanding quality on barren limestone as well as clay and sandstone soils and various combinations thereof, which wine lovers around the world rave about.
