About Prelius

The Maremma plain in southern Tuscany is a relatively young wine region. Here, Federica Masceroni Stianti, from the renowned Chianti winemaking family of Castello di Volpaia, has struck out on her own with the Prelius estate. Carefully and passionately, she produces elegant, Mediterranean-inspired organic wines. Thanks to the unique terroir – sandy sedimentary soils at just 30 to 50 m above sea level – and the typical microclimate with mild winters and hot summers, the vines ripen perfectly, resulting in supple, aromatic, and fruity wines.

The Region

Alongside Piedmont, Tuscany is arguably Italy's most famous wine-growing region. Long before the Romans, the Etruscans cultivated vines there; it is therefore one of the oldest wine-growing areas in Europe. When speaking of Tuscany, people primarily – and with justified pride – refer to the world-famous Chianti and Brunello. In fact, however, Tuscany is Italy's largest supplier of premium wines. Blessed with plenty of sunshine, cooled by occasionally strong sea breezes, and yet provided with sufficient rainfall, Tuscan vines grown on barren limestone as well as clay and sandstone soils and various combinations thereof yield outstanding quality, which wine lovers all over the world rave about.
