About Silentium
Silentium stands for a moment of silence. For that precious instant when the world turns a little slower, when you can enjoy relaxation and tranquility with a fine glass. Silentium was given plenty of time to reach perfect maturity: the wine rested for a long time in barriques in the quiet cellar, where it could develop its full character undisturbed. Enjoy it with a fine meal or simply on its own!
The Region
Southern Italy's Puglia is one of the country's most productive wine-growing regions. From the spur of the boot near Foggia to the tip of the heel beyond Lecce, Puglia stretches over 400 kilometres. The area is home to most of the grape varieties in southern Italy, around 80 per cent of which are red. The Mediterranean climate and calcareous subsoils with iron-oxide-rich layers above create perfect conditions for viticulture. In the hot, dry summers, the grapes ripen optimally, and the wines become deep, dark, earthy and full-bodied. Unlike other southern regions, there are hardly any mountains here; the landscape consists mainly of high plateaus and lowlands. A wine-growing area with enormous potential – the possibilities offered by the countless indigenous grape varieties are far from fully explored. Even today, Puglia produces some of the highest-quality wines, renowned for their intensity and richness, with the finest qualities grown on the Salento peninsula.
