The Region

Veneto, known in the local language as Veneto, is one of Italy's most popular wine regions, thanks in part to the tourist hub of Venice – and one of the country's three largest. Geographically, Veneto is extremely diverse: on the one hand, a third of the region is covered by mountain ranges, while on the other, the central plains feature extensive rice fields and a long stretch of coastline. Consequently, the wines of Veneto are exceptionally varied. Stony, limestone-rich soil covered with red and brown earth provides the vines with excellent growing conditions, while the Alps, whose foothills border the extensive northern area, protect the region from harsher Northern European weather and ensure a balanced climate.
